One Year Without Him

It’s been one year to the day that we lost Gord Downie. He was Canada’s Poet. The Tom Thompson of the Music world. Lead singer in the greatest rock band, The Tragically Hip. My love for the Hip’s music spans most of my teen and adult years to date (and for anyone keeping score – that’s a lot of time!). Gord was my idol, someone I have, and always will, look up to. It’s crazy to think that you could connect with another human on such a personal level through music. But Gord and the Hip did just that.

I don’t want to forget Gord. I don’t want to forget everything he did for Canadian music. I don’t want to forget everything he did for the people of Kingston; Toronto; Canada and everywhere in between. His work on the Secret Path in the last year of his life was inspirational. He helped bring to light the terrible atrocities some Indigenous children went through in residential schools. Canada needs to be better. Gord knew that, and we as citizens of this great country are starting to realize that too.

It is with this in mind that I am releasing another limited edition print for sale in my online shop. If you are interested in owning a copy, please use this link to find out more information. And if you buy a print (not just the one of Gord) from my shop between now and December 1st, 2018, I’ll donate the proceeds to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research. If you’d like to donate in Gord’s memory like I am, please use the link here: Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research. Even though Gord is not with us any longer, we can do something about bringing attention to this horrible disease and maybe, just maybe help to one day find a cure.

Please also think about supporting the Downie Wenjack Fund and continue the legacy that Gord started with Secret Path.

Thank you to Gord and the Hip for the lifetime of memories. Gone but never forgotten.
